AEW has added a TNT Championship match to the August 12 episode of Dynamite, with Kevin Knight set to defend the title against Chris Jericho following a challenge issued during Saturday night’s AEW Collision.

The match came together during a backstage segment on the August 8 episode of Collision. Knight was initially asked about Darby Allin challenging him to a Falls Count Anywhere TNT Championship match at All In following Allin’s victory over Knight at Grand Slam Mexico. Knight acknowledged the challenge but made it clear he wasn’t ready to give Allin what he wanted just yet.

Knight argued that Allin only defeated him at Grand Slam Mexico because of Chris Jericho’s involvement. That led the TNT Champion to turn his attention directly to Jericho, pointing out that Jericho was AEW’s first World Champion and previously held a television championship on TNT, but has never held the TNT Championship.

“He would have never won if it wasn’t for his little friend, Chris Jericho, who was the first AEW World Champion and, hell, he used to be a television champion on this very network. But one thing he’s never been is a TNT Champion.”

Knight then challenged Jericho to face him live Wednesday in Las Vegas, offering him a shot at the TNT Championship in exchange for the opportunity to erase the loss to Allin from his record. Knight finished by making it clear that he’ll deal with Allin after taking care of Jericho.

“So how about live this Wednesday in Las Vegas? Me and you, Jericho, we make a little gamble. You give me the opportunity to wipe that little blemish off my record, and I’ll give you a shot at this. How does that sound?”

“And then maybe, Lex, maybe we can talk about what Darby wants. But until then, I got some business to handle.”

That sets Kevin Knight vs. Chris Jericho for the TNT Championship on the August 12 episode of AEW Dynamite in Las Vegas, while Knight’s potential Falls Count Anywhere showdown with Darby Allin at All In remains hanging in the balance.
