Jonathan Coachman didn’t just dislike WWE’s segment on the July 27 episode of RAW—he called it the worst thing he’s ever seen during more than a decade of covering the company. After Ryan Garcia joined The Judgment Day and chaos broke out with Danhausen and Joe Hendry, Coachman unloaded on just about everyone involved.
The segment saw Ryan Garcia align himself with The Judgment Day, smash Joe Hendry with a guitar during an in-ring concert and dance party, before helping Dominik Mysterio and the rest of the group leave Hendry and Danhausen laid out ahead of SummerSlam. Coachman wasn’t buying any of it.
Taking to Twitter after the show, the former WWE announcer said the segment was unlike anything he had ever witnessed—and not in a good way.
“I can confidently say that, in my entire time covering WWE—which has been over a decade—whether it was on my two hit shows or talking about it with my friends, I have never, ever seen something as bad as I saw tonight. That… I think I kind of threw up in my mouth just thinking about it.”
Coachman then went down the list of people he felt were hurt by the segment, starting with the commentary team and ending with the performers in the ring.
“I feel bad for Michael Cole for having to put it over, Corey Graves for faking like he’s putting it over, Joe Hendry because that’s what they’re giving him after waiting so long to get called up, and the poor three little guys who just wanted a payday.”
The person he believed got the worst end of the deal, however, was Dominik Mysterio. Coachman argued that Dominik went from being one of WWE’s hottest heels to getting stuck in a storyline he believes has dragged the star backwards.
“The one I feel the worst for was the most over heel in WWE eight months ago—Dirty Dom. Now he’s been relegated to a one-on-one match in an angle they’re shoving down our throats with Danhausen. Dirty Dom was an absolute legend in the making, and that’s what you’re going to put him in tonight?”
Coachman saved his harshest words for the end, making it absolutely clear he wasn’t exaggerating his feelings.
“That was the worst segment I have ever seen. If all you WWE fans out there want to call me a hater, then call me a hater. Because if that’s hating, then I don’t know where we’ve gone, because that was… atrocious.”
Whether fans agree with Coachman or not, the segment has quickly become one of RAW’s most talked-about moments. Some enjoyed the over-the-top comedy, while others echoed Coachman’s criticism, making Ryan Garcia’s WWE debut one of the most polarizing parts of the road to SummerSlam.
