John Cena is done “figuring out” the John Cena Classic. The WWE legend says all the details for his new tournament have now been worked out, but the company isn’t ready to reveal them yet.
Cena shared the news during an appearance at Fan Expo Canada. When asked about the status of the John Cena Classic, he initially said he couldn’t discuss it before making it clear that WWE already has everything in place.
“I can’t say nothing right now. Normally, I want to say, ‘We’re figuring out all the details.’ I’ll say this: We have all the details.”
Cena said WWE wants him to keep everything under wraps until the company is ready to make its announcement. He also teased that a large amount of information will be released when that time comes.
“You just have to hang in there with me because they want me to keep it a secret until it’s time to say it. We have a lot of information we’re going to dump on you. It just ain’t going to be today.”
Cena announced the John Cena Classic at WWE Backlash on May 10. The tournament is set to pit WWE main roster Superstars against NXT talent, but its winner will be determined through fan voting instead of traditional wins and losses.
WWE has yet to explain how that voting system will work, who will compete or how many rounds the tournament will feature. No date or location has been announced either. The current target remains sometime after Survivor Series and before the end of 2026. Cena previously said the company was working toward that timeline, while one source described the window as “post-Survivor Series” with nothing locked in.
Cena still isn’t giving away the surprise, but his latest comments confirm the John Cena Classic has moved beyond the planning stage. WWE has the details—it’s now just a matter of when the company decides to reveal them.
