WWE is all about making big announcements and breaking ground. The company also isn’t one to hype an announcement that doesn’t deserve it, and Backlash was a big night for that.

Backlash 2026 went down tonight at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, and the world couldn’t wait to see what John Cena had to say. The Greatest of All Time retired from in-ring competition, and he meant it. That being said, he still showed up at Backlash.

John Cena came out for this segment after IYO Sky beat Asuka in a stellar match. The Never Seen 17 made his way out in a suit, and he also had a big smile on his face as he spoke to Stu the Cameraman.

After saying how great this moment is, because nobody is going to come down to kick his teeth in, John Cena received a big ovation. Then he got around to addressing what the big moment is in the ring right then and there. He said that he was going to address the next phase of his WWE career, and fans chanted “one more match.” Cena said that makes him feel good to hear, and he thinks a lot about his last match, but he wasn’t out there to book another outing in the squared circle.

Then John Cena announced that they are going to start The John Cena Classic. This will be an entire event where WWE Superstars and NXT Superstars battle in hopes of being crowned a champion. A brand-new championship is also going to be a part of this announcement, a title that Cena is going to put his name on. In the end, fans will vote to crown the true champion of the John Cena Classic.

For the first time in history, a Superstar may not win the match, but their hustle could win the fans’ vote. That being said, you never know what might happen in this upcoming event. Cena said that this won’t be a one-year event because the sky is the limit. That being said, they didn’t announce a date for the event.

John Cena was also the host of WrestleMania this year. Although he won’t wrestle again, it’s nice to see that the Greatest of All Time isn’t against showing up to WWE every now and then for a big announcement.
