John Cena gave the internet exactly what it needed to keep the Johnny Bravo rumors alive.

The retired WWE star and Peacemaker actor dropped an image of the Cartoon Network character on Instagram days after fans started pushing the idea that Cena could play Johnny Bravo in a live-action movie, and now people are wondering whether he’s trolling everybody or quietly teasing something real.

The whole thing started after fan pages and parody accounts began circulating fake casting claims and AI-generated posters showing Cena with Johnny Bravo’s blonde hair, black shirt and ridiculous swagger. None of that amounted to an actual movie announcement, but Cena throwing Johnny Bravo onto his own Instagram feed made the rumor much harder for fans to ignore. One skeptical fan summed up the reaction pretty perfectly.

“Actor is trolling us all or it’s actually happening.”

There is still no official confirmation that a live-action Johnny Bravo movie starring Cena is in development, but fans have been running with the idea because the casting almost makes too much sense. Cena already has the massive frame, over-the-top comedy experience and ability to play larger-than-life characters without taking himself too seriously. One fan on X was completely on board with the idea.

“John Cena as Johnny Bravo is a casting choice I believe in. He’s got the physique AND the commitment. They made the same name joke already, but the live-action cartoon idea is intriguing.”

Not everyone is sold. Some fans pointed out that Johnny Bravo is generally portrayed as a much younger character, while Cena is approaching 50, which has led to plenty of debate over whether the physical resemblance is enough. One fan wasn’t buying it.

“Truthfully and sentiments aside, he wouldn’t fit the role.”

What makes the whole rumor even crazier is that Hollywood has actually tried this before. Warner Bros. explored a live-action Johnny Bravo movie back in the early 2000s with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attached to the project, but it never made it to the screen. That old connection has only helped make the current Cena rumor feel slightly less insane.

For now, there’s no real Johnny Bravo casting announcement and no confirmed live-action movie with Cena attached. What there is, though, is Cena posting Johnny Bravo at the exact moment fans are fantasy-casting him in the role, which is more than enough to keep the internet spinning.

Cena also isn’t exactly sitting around waiting for another movie. His 2026 schedule already includes Coyote vs. Acme and Matchbox: The Movie, giving him plenty of legitimate Hollywood work without needing to throw on a blonde pompadour.

Still, Cena knows exactly how social media works, and posting Johnny Bravo while fans are already connecting him to the character was always going to set people off. Whether he’s having some fun with the rumor or teasing something bigger remains the question.
