Joseph Sawyer isn’t wasting any time rebuilding momentum after WWE. Just one week after crashing GCW and putting the company’s top champion on notice, the former Joe Gacy has already picked up his first championship since leaving WWE.
On August 8, Sawyer competed for Xcite Wrestling, where he defeated Anthony Gangone to become the new Xcite Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, marking his first title victory since his WWE release. Xcite Wrestling announced the result shortly after the match.
“Joseph Sawyer wins his first championship back! He is the new Xcite Wrestling Heavyweight Champion!
#Joegacy #Wyatt6 #Wrestling
@JoeGacy @AnthonyGangone”
The title win continues what’s already been a busy first month back on the independent scene. Sawyer recently won his first post-WWE match at Wrestling REVOLVER, then made a surprise appearance at GCW Rude, where he laid out GCW Champion Atticus Cogar with Sister Abigail before holding the championship high in the air. He later confirmed he’ll be back for GCW Homecoming, making it clear he’s coming after Cogar’s title next.
It’s been less than two weeks since Sawyer returned to the independent scene, and he’s already racked up a win, crashed one promotion’s main event, and now has championship gold around his waist. Whatever comes next, he’s making sure nobody forgets his name after WWE.
