Not even JBL knows what the hell is happening with the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide broadcast — and he’s supposed to be one of the announcers.
Worlds Collide is set for September 26 in the Chicago area, but WWE still hasn’t officially told fans where they can watch the show. After days of conflicting information about whether the event would air live, be taped for later or stream on YouTube, JBL just made the whole situation even more confusing.
Speaking on Something To Wrestle, JBL revealed that he won’t even be in Chicago for the show. Instead, the current plan he was given involves calling the action after it has already happened.
“I’m not going to be there. We’re going to call it post fact. I’m not going to be there. They asked if I would come in, I said, ‘Absolutely, I’d be happy to.’ But they’re not bringing in announcers.”
That’s a pretty massive wrinkle considering the latest word had pointed in the opposite direction. Andrew Baydala recently said people he spoke with believed Worlds Collide was now expected to stream live on YouTube, after earlier information suggested WWE was treating the event more like a live event that would be taped and distributed later.
Ringside News previously covered how WWE Worlds Collide was expected to be taped instead of airing live, but the situation has clearly remained fluid. When JBL was directly asked whether he knew if the show would actually be broadcast — or where fans would be able to watch it — his answer was basically: your guess is as good as mine.
“I don’t know. Things have changed so much. They called me two or three weeks ago and said, ‘Would you mind coming in?’ I said, ‘I’d be happy to.’ I know most things are remote in Mexico. I told them I’d be happy to come to Chicago, but things changed. What they told us initially, this was a few weeks ago, is that we would probably voice it over next week. They may have changed that since, I don’t know.”
So that clears up absolutely nothing. What makes the confusion even crazier is the card WWE has put together. CM Punk, Rey Mysterio and AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano are set to face Omos, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh, with WWE loading the event up despite still leaving fans in the dark about something as basic as how they’re supposed to watch it.
Worlds Collide is also going down on the same night AEW presents All Out in the Chicago area, so there’s no shortage of attention on what WWE and AAA are doing. Yet with the show almost here, even JBL can’t give a straight answer because apparently the broadcast plan keeps changing behind the scenes.
At this point, the biggest mystery surrounding Worlds Collide isn’t who wins — it’s whether fans are watching the matches live, later, or somewhere WWE hasn’t bothered announcing yet. If one of the people expected to call the show doesn’t know the answer, fans certainly shouldn’t feel bad for being confused.
