Jake Hager’s recovery from his horrific Power Slap eye injury has hit another serious hurdle. The former WWE star needed another surgery after doctors discovered a detached retina, though there is at least some encouraging news coming out of the procedure.

Slap News took to Instagram and shared the latest update provided by Hager’s fiancée, Patricia Blackburn. According to the post, doctors discovered sometime this week that Hager had suffered a detached retina in his injured eye. That meant another trip into surgery, this time to reattach the retina. Thankfully, doctors apparently felt the procedure went even better than they expected.

“It was discovered this week that Jake had a detached retina. He underwent surgery to reattach, which doctors have said went better than expected.

Send your love and prayers to Jake and Patricia as they navigate a very sensitive and unpredictable recovery.

Update provided by Jake’s fiancé, Patricia Blackburn.”

The former WWE and AEW star suffered the original injury at Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas, back in September. Hager took a brutal strike from Johnny Magna that left him bleeding from his left eye and ear, and the fight was immediately stopped.

Hager later underwent emergency eye surgery after suffering a globe rupture. For a while, there wasn’t much information about exactly how much damage had been done or what his chances were of regaining his vision.

There was finally some encouraging news on October 8 when Slap News reported that Sinn Bodhi had revealed Hager could see out of his injured left eye. However, it was still unclear how much of his vision would ultimately return, and the possibility of additional surgeries was already on the table.

Unfortunately, that possibility has now become reality with doctors discovering the detached retina. The good news is that the latest surgery apparently went better than expected. Still, Blackburn’s update makes it clear that Hager isn’t out of the woods yet, describing his recovery as both “sensitive and unpredictable.”

For now, there’s no clear timetable for Hager’s recovery or any indication of how much vision he’ll ultimately regain. After multiple surgeries following such a serious eye injury, the focus remains on how his eye responds to treatment from here.
