Jade Cargill knows William Regal and her husband both think she should sign more autographs, but she has a very specific reason for keeping fans at a distance.

While speaking to Unsportsmanlike, Cargill recalled Regal approaching her at an airport and telling her that she should appreciate people asking for her autograph while they still do. She said her husband has told her the same thing, but her approach is tied to keeping kayfabe alive.

“I remember at the airport, William Regal, he came up to me. He was like, ‘Hey, you need to sign those autographs because one day nobody’s going to ask for your autograph.’ And I remember my husband saying that as well, but I try to keep the kayfabe alive. So I want people to hate me.”

Cargill explained that she knows people often find her much nicer in real life than they expect, and that can work against the reaction she wants as a heel. She did make one exception clear. She said she will sign for kids, but warned people not to use children just to get items signed.

“And I’m just such a lovable person. So when people meet me, they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re actually really nice. You’re really down to earth.’ And so then they’re like, ‘OK, well, I want to cheer for you.’ And I’m like, ‘No, you need to hate me. Like I don’t want you to like me. And this is the point.’ So unless it’s a kid — no, no, unless it’s a kid. And don’t pull your kids to sign your stuff. But unless it’s a kid, I’m probably just headlights just going like, ‘Don’t talk to me, I’m gone.’”

She then explained that when fans walk away thinking she has an attitude, that reaction actually helps her. Cargill said she wants people to bring that same negative energy to the show because it fuels the kind of response she is trying to create.

“And then they say, ‘Oh, she has such an attitude,’ and all this stuff. And I’m like, ‘Yeah, give it to me, please.’ Because tomorrow when you come to the show, I want you to feel that and I want you to bring that energy.”

Cargill’s comments show that her autograph stance is not just about avoiding fan interaction. For her, it is part of maintaining the character and making sure the crowd reacts to her the way she wants when she walks into an arena.

Jade Cargill may understand why people want autographs, but she is clearly choosing character work over being overly friendly in public. Whether fans agree with that or not, she believes keeping that distance helps make her heel presentation stronger.
