Tommy Dreamer’s TNA exit already had people talking, but now an old indie wrestling story involving him is getting pulled right back into the conversation.

Indie wrestler Kennedi Copeland jumped on Twitter after Dreamer’s TNA departure and revealed that she once asked to take a cane shot in a match with him. According to her, Dreamer said he did not do that with women, so they ended up doing a spanking spot instead.

“Hol’ up are we sharing our Tommy Dreamer stories bc one time I told him I really wanted to take a cane shot in a match and he told me he doesn’t do that with women so instead we did a spanking spot bc women amirite”

Copeland then said she actually found a photo from the spot and admitted she now looks back at that version of herself with sympathy: “Omg I can’t believe I just found the photo of it too. (I look back on those days and wish I could give young misguided Kenn Dawg a hug)”

Then a fan asked the obvious question: why not just refuse? Kennedi said it was not that simple back then. She was young, new, trying to please people, and felt like saying no to a veteran could hurt her future. That’s the real sting here. Kennedi isn’t just saying the spot was bad. She’s saying she didn’t feel like she had the power to shut it down.

“Because I was young and dumb and impressionable and a people pleaser and still very new in wrestling and didn’t know I could say no especially to a vet because I was always told, “If you really want it, you’d do anything for it.” ¯_(ツ)_/¯”

This all comes right after Dreamer’s TNA exit, where he had been a major behind-the-scenes figure. Delirious is now expected to take over as the lead creative voice, while TNA continues dealing with departures from names like Tessa Blanchard, Steve Maclin, Myla Grace, and others.

At the end of the day, Dreamer’s TNA exit was already a big story, but Kennedi Copeland just dragged a much messier conversation into it. Wrestling’s old “do anything to make it” culture is getting picked apart again, and this time Dreamer’s name is right in the middle of it.

Do you think Kennedi Copeland was right to speak out about the old Tommy Dreamer spot? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
