Hulk Hogan’s final WWE appearance didn’t go the way he wanted—and now there’s a clearer picture of how he actually handled it behind the scenes.

While speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro UK on April 15, 2026, Hulk Hogan: Real American director Bryan Storkel opened up about Hogan being booed out of the building on WWE Raw in January 2025—his final televised appearance.

At the time, Hogan publicly pointed to political backlash tied to his support of Donald Trump. But according to Storkel, the reality was more complicated than that. He explained that Hogan did recognize the situation wasn’t tied to just one issue, even if he leaned into the political explanation.

“Somewhat,” Bryan said when asked if Hogan fully understood the backlash from fans. “I think there’s multiple reasons too, and he was more into the political side in the last years. But I think he also understood there were other reasons.”

Storkel also shared what happened when he tried to get Hogan to open up about how the reaction actually felt—especially being booed not as a character, but as himself. He recalled directly asking Hogan about the emotional impact of that moment, but said the wrestling icon didn’t fully admit it.

“I asked him, ‘Certainly in real life, when you’re being booed, not for your character, but because of other things, that has to hurt, right?’”

According to Storkel, Hogan’s response didn’t match what people around him were seeing behind the scenes. In the end, Storkel believes the reaction hit deeper than Hogan let on publicly—especially for someone whose entire career was built on crowd support.

“And that’s one where he kind of, I think, deflected a bit, and was like, ‘No, of course, it didn’t hurt’, but you talk to the people around him, and I think it did. “Everyone wants to be loved. And I think, at the end of the day, he does say, the cheers were obviously better than the boos.”

For a name like Hulk Hogan—whose entire legacy was built on crowd reactions—being rejected like that on his final TV moment hits differently. He may have brushed it off publicly, but according to those closest to the situation, that reaction stuck more than he ever admitted.
