GUNTHER thinks Clash in Italy could turn into a rare babyface moment for him.

Ahead of his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes on May 31 in Turin, “The Ring General” addressed the possibility of Italian fans cheering for him over WWE’s top babyface.

Speaking with the Italian Wrestling Channel, GUNTHER admitted the European setting could completely flip the crowd dynamic during the match.

“Maybe, we’ll see. Obviously we’re in Europe. That’s my home turf.”

GUNTHER pointed to previous WWE international events where European crowds loudly supported stars from their side of the world, even if those wrestlers were technically playing the heel on television.

Instead of avoiding that possibility, GUNTHER said he actually likes the idea because it changes the atmosphere of the match.

“I even think it makes it a little bit more interesting to be honest. Might feel a little bit like an away game for Cody.”

The comments are especially interesting because Cody Rhodes has spent the last few years positioned as WWE’s top heroic figure, while GUNTHER has largely dominated as one of the company’s coldest and most ruthless heels. But WWE’s recent European crowds have repeatedly ignored traditional babyface and heel roles in favor of backing wrestlers they feel connected to regionally.

GUNTHER also made it clear he plans on walking into Turin ready to finally capture WWE’s biggest championship.

“That’s the ultimate goal of every professional wrestler is you want to be a champion. So that’s what I’m here to do.”

When discussing the actual match, GUNTHER promised fans they are getting something special.

“I think it will not disappoint on any level.”

With Clash in Italy taking place in Europe and GUNTHER already expecting support from the crowd, Cody Rhodes could end up dealing with a very unusual situation when the bell rings.
