Fred Ottman has shared another health update, and unfortunately, it comes with more bad news. After recently being released from the hospital, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he’s now recovering from multiple eye surgeries and won’t be able to travel for the foreseeable future.
In an Instagram video posted on October 1, Ottman explained that his recovery means he’ll have to cancel his scheduled appearance at 80s Wrestling Con in Parsippany, New Jersey on October 31. Ottman also hinted that the eye procedures aren’t the only health issues he’s currently dealing with.
“Coming at you with some sad news: October 31, I was scheduled at 80s Con up north, and unfortunately I’ve had multiple surgeries on my eyes and I will not be able to fly for a while, on top of some other stuff. And I still got some other things, irons in the fire, so to speak. It’s more than just these cool geriatric shades that I’m wearing here to help with the light right now.”
Despite the setback, Ottman said he’s hopeful everything will eventually be behind him and apologized to fans who were planning to see him at the convention.
“But I wanted to let everybody know that I’m sad that I won’t be able to attend. Hopefully everything will be finished up and better on down the road. So, I love ya, just giving you the heads up.”
It’s been an incredibly difficult year for the 70-year-old. Earlier this year, Ottman battled serious complications from a ruptured gallbladder, spent weeks hospitalized, and was later admitted to the hospital again for another undisclosed medical issue. Now, he’s adding multiple eye surgeries to that growing list of health challenges.
For now, getting healthy is clearly the priority. Missing the convention is disappointing for both Ottman and his fans, but his latest update suggests he’s focused on recovering before thinking about getting back on the road.
