Former WWE star Curtis Axel allegedly caused a scene at a Minnesota McDonald’s before ending up in handcuffs during a DUI arrest earlier this month.
Ringside News has learned additional details connected to the arrest of Joseph Hennig, the former WWE talent best known as Curtis Axel, after police records painted a much more chaotic picture of what allegedly happened on May 17 in St. Francis, Minnesota.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to a property damage crash at a McDonald’s on Saint Francis Boulevard Northwest at approximately 8:47 p.m. When police arrived, they allegedly found Hennig slowly driving his truck around the parking lot while showing visible signs of intoxication. Officers stated they immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle along with bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.
Things allegedly escalated quickly once officers tried getting Hennig out of the truck. The complaint claims Hennig refused commands to exit the vehicle, forcing officers to open the door themselves, reach inside to shut off the engine, and remove him from the truck after continued resistance. Police then placed Hennig into a squad car where he allegedly refused chemical testing while yelling profanities at officers.
The incident allegedly started moments earlier in the McDonald’s drive-thru. According to a restaurant employee, Hennig had been mumbling while placing his order before becoming verbally aggressive toward staff members. The employee also claimed Hennig backed his truck into another vehicle before screaming insults at the female driver involved in the crash.
During an inventory search of the truck before towing it away, officers allegedly discovered a 750 mL open bottle of Phillips vodka sitting on the front passenger-side floorboard.
Hennig is now facing multiple charges tied to the arrest, including gross misdemeanor refusal to submit to chemical testing, misdemeanor DUI, obstructing legal process, violation of the open bottle law, and disorderly conduct.
Court records show the alleged offense took place on May 17, while charges were officially filed the following day. Judge Karen B. Schommer set bail at either $12,000 without conditions or release without bail under conditional terms.
The 46-year-old former WWE star comes from one of wrestling’s most recognizable families as the son of WWE Hall of Famer Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig and grandson of Larry “The Axe” Hennig. After leaving WWE in 2020, Hennig mostly disappeared from the wrestling scene and has only wrestled once since his departure during an independent event in 2025.
The newly released details surrounding the arrest add a much more serious layer to the situation as the former WWE star now faces multiple criminal charges tied to the alleged incident.
