The sports world is mourning the loss of NASCAR star and former WWE 24/7 Champion Kyle Busch, who has passed away at the age of 41 after being hospitalized with a severe illness.

Busch was competing in his 22nd NASCAR season and built a Hall of Fame-caliber career as one of the most successful and polarizing drivers of his generation. He captured two NASCAR Cup Series championships and became one of the sport’s most recognizable names over more than two decades on the track.

Wrestling fans will also remember Busch for his appearance in WWE, where he briefly captured the WWE 24/7 Championship during an episode of Monday Night Raw in 2019. Busch defeated R-Truth for the title on December 9, 2019, adding his name to one of WWE’s most chaotic championship lineages. Busch had also appeared years earlier as a guest host on a 2009 episode of Raw.

Following the news of his passing, the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR released a joint statement remembering Busch’s legacy both on and off the track.

“On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch.”

The statement went on to call Busch a once-in-a-generation talent whose impact on NASCAR stretched far beyond championships and victories.

“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.”

NASCAR also reflected on Busch’s accomplishments across multiple series and the connection he built with racing fans through “Rowdy Nation.”

“Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR’s highest level and fostered the next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series. His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation.’”

The statement also offered condolences to Busch’s family, friends, teammates, and fans while asking for privacy during the difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha’s parents, Kurt and all of Kyle’s family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends and fans. NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon.”

“During this incredibly difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy and continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.”

Busch leaves behind one of the most decorated careers in modern NASCAR history along with a crossover legacy that even included a memorable run in WWE as 24/7 Champion. His death marks a massive loss for both the racing world and fans who followed his larger-than-life personality throughout his career.
