2: Carmella defeats Asuka
Carmella’s run as SmackDown’s women’s champion has been a divisive one. Her promo work has been suitably irritating but she is not exactly Charlotte Flair in the ring, and the crowd hasn’t really gotten behind her as champion.
It looks as though she is set to be a transitional champion though, with most fans predicting a comfortable victory for Asuka at Money in the Bank.
Asuka hasn’t competed on PPV since her defeat to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34, and the WWE would be wise to not have her lose at two consecutive events. That being said, the company do like to pull out surprises on the big nights, and with the Iiconics lurking in the background, there is a very real possibility that Asuka could get screwed out of the title at Money in the Bank.
It seems like it will only be a matter of time before Asuka picks up the title, and it makes sense to have her as the champion for SummerSlam, but don’t rule out the WWE delaying her victory until Extreme Rules by having her take another loss here.
