Chelsea Green hasn’t even made it to SmackDown yet, and WWE fans are already asking the company to change one thing about her championship reign.
Just hours before the August 7 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE promoted Green’s appearance on Twitter—but instead of talking about the Interim Women’s Champion herself, fans flooded the replies with one message: get rid of the word “interim.”
The backlash started after WWE once again referred to Green as the Interim WWE Women’s Champion, a label many fans no longer think makes sense following Rhea Ripley’s knee surgery. One fan wrote:
“JFC Rhea is going to be out months. Just call her the Women’s Champion and be done with it. The title deserves more than this Interim crap.”
Another echoed the same frustration as they demanded WWE take the word “interim” out.
“Take the interim off, Rhea ahh is at home with a fcked up knee, she ain’t coming back till 2027.”
Others went even further, arguing the company should stop treating Green like a placeholder and fully commit to her as champion.
“C’mon, you gotta stop this interim stuff. You might as well call Rhea an interim wrestler since she’s always injured.”
Another fan even suggested WWE redesign the championship around Chelsea Green herself and also making it clear she shouldn’t be the interim champion.
“Take interim off and give her a new championship belt of her design.”
The reaction comes after reports claiming WWE has internally discussed dropping the “Interim” label altogether if Rhea Ripley’s recovery stretches into 2027. Nothing has been officially announced, but judging by the reaction to Friday’s post, plenty of fans have already made up their minds.
