Sami Zayn waited 13 years to finally become WWE Champion, and fans are furious that WWE only let him hold it for nine days.

CM Punk beat Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship on the July 6 episode of RAW in Chicago, giving Punk a massive hometown moment. But online, a lot of fans weren’t celebrating. They were asking why Sami’s long-awaited title win at Night of Champions was cut short so quickly.

One fan took to Twitter and summed up the frustration pretty clearly: “Sami Zayn worked 13 years for a 9 day title reign… Yall should be ashamed” Another fan didn’t bother dressing it up: “9 days?! F*** you all.” One fan questioned the entire point of putting the title on Sami if WWE was just going to take it away almost immediately.

“What was the point

Got the pop for Sami to be champion for about a week

Now Punk is champion

Crazy”

Another fan said WWE went right back to the same familiar names at the top instead of letting someone else actually run with the championship.

“Wwe is useless.same old baby faces winning again and again.not letting anyone else have the championship that sucks for real.”

Punk’s win was clearly designed to be a major moment. He beat Sami in the main event, celebrated in front of his hometown crowd, and even looked into the camera afterwards to tell AJ Lee, “I’ll be home in twenty minutes, babe.”

Still, for fans who wanted Sami to get a real reign, that didn’t soften the blow. Zayn fought with no notice, threw Punk’s own GTS back at him, and kept reminding him, “I’m the champion now.” By the end of the night, though, Punk hit a Helluva Kick, followed with a GTS, and Sami’s reign was over.

Sami still got his world title moment, but plenty of fans clearly wanted more than nine days. Punk may be leaving Chicago as champion, but WWE is now dealing with the other side of that decision: a fanbase that thinks Sami deserved a lot better.
