Zilla Fatu finally arrived in WWE, and some fans are already begging the company not to give them another five years of the Bloodline. His NXT debut should have been all about a huge new signing, but a chunk of the audience had a very different reaction: not another one.
Following the August 11 edition of NXT, fans took to Twitter to vent about another member of the famous Samoan wrestling family joining WWE while the Bloodline remains such a major part of the company.
One fan admitted they would’ve been excited about Fatu just a year ago. Now they’re simply exhausted by the idea of WWE continuing to build around the same family.
“A year ago I would have been excited now all I see is this bloodline shit going another 5 years which is horrible because I know he’s talented I’m just sick of this same s*** and an entire corporation centered around one family with the same recycled story.”
Others immediately pointed to Fatu’s moveset, which didn’t exactly help shake the feeling that WWE was introducing another variation of something fans have already watched for years.
“Gee…a Samoan drop, splash and a superman punch…yea he earned a contract. Jesus F****** Christ.”
Another fan said that WWE now has more than enough Samoan wrestlers doing the same combination.
“So another guy who does a splash, Samoan drop and superman punch? Good now we have like an even ten of them. Where is the super kick tho?”
Someone else was even more direct about the Bloodline similarities, making it clear they feel this was corny.
“Superman punch, Samoan drop, splash…bro this so so corny…how many guys from the ‘bloodline’ are going to have the same schtick.”
And then came perhaps the simplest summary of the frustration, where the fan was just sick of having another Samoan for the Bloodline.
“Oh boy ANOTHER Samoan for the bloodline, THAT didn’t get stale years ago…”
All of this came after WWE gave Fatu a massive introduction. He crashed the NXT Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match between Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller, planting Montana with a Samoan Drop before turning his attention to Waller. A Superman Punch followed, along with a Frog Splash on Montana and an Uso Splash on Waller.
Fatu then stared down NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo as the show went off the air, immediately putting himself around the biggest prize on the brand.
But instead of everyone wondering when Fatu would get his hands on Tony, part of the audience was wondering whether his arrival meant WWE was preparing to squeeze even more life out of the Bloodline.
Zilla Fatu walked into NXT looking for Tony D’Angelo’s championship. Some fans saw something much bigger coming behind him: another chapter of the Bloodline they thought might never end.
