WWE thought it was making a big announcement ahead of Money in the Bank, but a lot of fans had the exact opposite reaction. Instead of getting excited, plenty of people immediately started calling out Triple H over the decision.

During the October 9 episode of SmackDown, WWE confirmed that Roman Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight in the opening match of Money in the Bank. The announcement also means there won’t be an immediate Money in the Bank cash-in on Reigns later in the night, something plenty of fans had been predicting if the match closed the show.

The reaction online was almost immediate. A lot of fans felt WWE had tipped its hand by putting Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight at the very start of the show, with some arguing it made Knight’s chances of winning feel even slimmer than before. One fan on Twitter summed up that frustration by claiming Triple H simply isn’t behind LA Knight.

“Lmao bro triple h really hate la knight.”

Another fan took things a step further by tagging Triple H directly and posting CM Punk’s famous “You bald fraud” GIF. They clearly weren’t happy with the booking decision and didn’t hold back.

“@TripleH hates LA Knight!! 😡😡🤬🤬”

Not everyone focused on Triple H personally. One fan was more upset about what they believed the booking meant for the outcome of the title match, arguing that Roman Reigns winning now felt almost inevitable.

“And LA will lose because you want to push a boring c*** like Roman. I’m tired of this s***.”

Another fan believed the entire point of opening the show was to make sure Reigns couldn’t be cashed in on later in the night. They blasted both WWE and Triple H over what they saw as a predictable decision.

“F***off!!! @WWE not only do you not wanna give @RealLAKnight the title.. you’re ensuring Roman doesn’t get his dumbass cashed in on… you bald fraud @TripleH.”

Some fans also questioned why one of WWE’s biggest championship matches wasn’t closing the show. In their eyes, moving it to the opening match made it feel less important than it should have.

“So much for a main event match 😕, triple h will never let la knight win anything that the world championship in it.”

Another fan argued that the match order itself made it difficult to believe LA Knight had any realistic chance of pulling off the upset. They felt WWE had hurt the suspense before the show had even begun.

“At least act more like LA Knight has a legitimate chance. We all knew he wasn’t winning it, but there’s a way to make people believe Roman could lose, and ya all screwing it all up. Nobody wanna see this s*** now.”

Whether WWE’s decision ends up paying off remains to be seen, but it clearly struck a nerve with a vocal section of the fanbase. Fans will find out soon enough if Triple H’s booking choice was the right one—or if the backlash only gets louder after Money in the Bank.
