ESPN is staying quiet about whether Andreas Hale’s issues with WWE had anything to do with his exit from the network.
Hale announced on July 21, 2026, that he was among the employees released during ESPN’s latest round of company-wide layoffs.
“I was just informed that my time at ESPN has come to an end, as I am one of the casualties of the company-wide layoffs.”
When POST Wrestling contacted ESPN and asked whether Hale’s WrestlePalooza grade or WWE’s decision to deny him WrestleMania 42 credentials played any role in his departure, a network spokesperson declined to comment.
Hale gave WWE WrestlePalooza a C grade in September 2025 and refused to change his opinion after receiving backlash.
“I gave it a C, and it deserved a C.”
WWE later denied Hale media credentials for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Hale said neither he nor ESPN received an explanation for the decision.
“I will not be covering WrestleMania for ESPN. WWE denied my credentials and blocked my access.”
Hale said he gave everything he had while covering boxing, MMA and professional wrestling for ESPN. He also made it clear that the layoff will not end his career.
“There will be those who are overjoyed with the news and others who will be shocked. Either way, I gave my all covering boxing, MMA and pro wrestling and will continue to do so wherever the next chapter of my career takes me.”
“Once again, you know where to find me because I’m not going anywhere.”
Hale said he was part of a larger round of company layoffs, and there is no evidence that WWE influenced ESPN’s decision. However, ESPN’s refusal to address whether the grading controversy or credential denial played a role will leave plenty of questions surrounding his departure.
