Drew McIntyre may be getting closer to stepping back inside a WWE ring, but he isn’t ready to make his comeback the main topic of conversation just yet.
While speaking to Collider alongside Chase DeMoor about Agent of Shadows, McIntyre found himself talking wrestling after praising DeMoor’s performance during the movie’s action scenes.
McIntyre pointed out that DeMoor has a martial arts background, went to stunt school and held his own while taking bumps during filming. Drew liked what he saw enough to start openly fantasy booking DeMoor’s future inside a WWE ring.
McIntyre said they needed to put a pin in the idea because he fully intends to get DeMoor into the ring at some point. Then he took it even further by pitching them as a tag team, complete with championship gold.
“Yeah, let’s put a let’s put a pin in that. We’re going to get you in the ring. Uh we’re going to get you in the ring. We’re going to get in the ring. And see, these days, you know, guys aren’t you know, I’m one of the biggest guys now and you’re you’re tall jacked guy. I reckon we’d be a tag team and smash a bunch of people, get some tag titles on our shoulders. That you could do most of the work and I’ll hang out in the apron, get the crowd going. I’ll save my body. I’ve been around for a while and you could do some of the work. No, he he’s he’s got the look. I can see that.”
The interviewer was completely on board with the pitch and said he could picture DeMoor getting a huge reaction before joking that the wheels were already turning. That’s when McIntyre pumped the brakes on turning the conversation into speculation about his own WWE return. He made it clear that, for now, this was about the version of Drew working in Hollywood.
“The wheels are turning. The wheels are turning. Like leave that with me. I mean right now we’re talking today about Hollywood Drew. We’re not worrying about my comeback right now, but the wheels are turning.”
McIntyre’s Hollywood work has played a major role in his time away from WWE. As Ringside News previously covered, McIntyre’s growing movie schedule included Highlander and another project with Russell Crowe, giving him plenty to do while wrestling was temporarily on the back burner.
He hasn’t completely stepped away from preparing for WWE either. McIntyre later fueled WWE return speculation by posting footage of himself training inside the ring, although that still didn’t come with a return date.
So while McIntyre clearly hasn’t forgotten about WWE, he’s not using Agent of Shadows promotion to announce when the Claymore is coming back to television. Right now, he’s enjoying Hollywood Drew, stacking up acting experience and apparently doing some recruiting on the side.
When do you think Drew McIntyre should make his WWE comeback, and would you actually want to see Chase DeMoor standing beside him when he does? Drop your thoughts in the comments and leave your feedback below.
