Drew McIntyre wasn’t kidding when he said his WWE return would come with some new moves. The former WWE Champion just climbed to the top rope during training and busted out a flying arm drag while continuing to prepare for his eventual in-ring comeback.
McIntyre showed off the unexpected move in an Instagram post on October 21. The 285-pounder went up top before launching himself into the flying arm drag, then popped back up and yelled “Olé!” to celebrate pulling it off. Drew clearly enjoyed proving he still has a few tricks hiding in his moveset. He joked about suddenly going full lucha while tagging Chivas in the post.
“Who said I can’t do Lucha?! Seguimos juntos, @chivas! 🐐”
The timing makes the clip even more interesting because McIntyre recently teased that his moveset could look noticeably different whenever he finally wrestles again. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Drew revealed that his time away from WWE has allowed him to rebuild his body and work heavily on his balance, agility and conditioning.
“I’ve been working real hard in a way that my cardio and agility is, I’d say my whole life, but really for sure the past 12 years, is right now the best I’ve been. Like I feel great agility-wise. Bigger than I’ve ever been. I’m moving better than I have.”
McIntyre currently weighs around 285 pounds, but the extra size apparently hasn’t slowed him down. He previously said old highlight videos had reminded him of moves he’d completely forgotten he used to perform, and that got him thinking about bringing some of them back.
“I’ve got a feeling some of my offense is going to be unique. I saw some videos of myself people had sent me, were highlight videos, and I was like, I didn’t realize I did that. Guess I’m going to start stealing for myself.”
Drew went even further by claiming he can now perform some of those old moves more easily than he could during his 20s. Considering what he just pulled off from the top rope, he appears pretty serious about testing that theory.
“Forgot I did half the moves, and I physically can do them easily now and probably better than I did them when I was in my 20s.”
Of course, nobody should expect McIntyre to suddenly turn into a full-time high-flyer. When Van Vliet previously asked whether fans should expect some new additions to his offense, Drew gave a pretty simple description of what he has planned.
“Yes, 100%. Mostly violence again.”
McIntyre hasn’t wrestled for WWE since WrestleMania 42, and he’s been taking his time before getting back into the ring. He previously told fans asking about his return to give him “a little second,” making it clear that he’ll come back when he decides the time is right.
The latest training footage doesn’t give fans a return date, but it does show exactly what McIntyre has been talking about. If a 285-pound Drew is now climbing to the top rope and throwing flying arm drags while promising new offense, his eventual WWE comeback could look a little different from the version fans last saw.
