D’Lo Brown is not feeling today’s wrestling entrance music, and he made it clear that something major has been lost from the Attitude Era.

During the Coach and Bro Show, D’Lo was asked how important entrance themes are now compared to back in the day. D’Lo said music used to be a huge part of a wrestler’s identity, and fans knew exactly who was coming out the second the song hit.

“Let me start with back then and Vince coach, you guys know this. You knew who was coming out in the first hundredth of a second when someone’s song hit. If you smell, gong, the glass breaking, are you ready? Like you knew who was coming out. Music is synonymous with that entrance.”

D’Lo then took a shot at modern entrance themes, saying a lot of them do not create that instant reaction anymore. According to him, fans now have to wait until the wrestler actually appears before they know who it is.

“Today’s music has become kind of generic. And there’s no pop the minute the music hits because now people have to wait for that person to come through Gorilla and then they’ve got to ID who it is and by then he or she are halfway down the ramp. And that takes away from that.”

D’Lo also gave major credit to Jim Johnston, saying WWE’s classic theme songs worked because they actually matched the wrestlers using them.

“The minute your music hits and the house lights up and the crowd goes crazy and the adrenaline is flowing, that’s gone because music is just that important and I will never undersell the importance of a guy like Jim Johnston who was great at matching the music with the talent. Every music literally went with every guy or girl. And today it just everybody’s coming out to like generic elevator music.”

That is a brutal review of today’s wrestling themes, but a lot of fans will probably agree. The Attitude Era had songs that hit like a warning shot, while many modern themes just do not have the same punch.
