Danhausen’s connection to the New York Knicks has apparently taken on a life of its own, as he’s been bombarded by fan requests to curse and uncurse all sorts of teams.
While speaking on The Sal Licata Show, Danhausen talked about his strange role in the Knicks’ postseason run after previously “uncursing” the team. Since then, he said fans from other New York sports teams have been flooding his Cameo with requests to curse and uncurse different franchises.
“Yes. Yes. Danhausen’s Cameo is filled with just curse this team, uncurse this team, curse this team, uncurse this team. And now I don’t know who’s cursed and who’s uncursed except for I know that the Knicks are uncursed because the rest of them I have no clue at this point. It’s back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. It’s just curse on top of curse on top of curse.”
When asked whether most requests were for teams like the Mets or Jets, Danhausen said the Mets are getting more attention right now, likely because they are currently playing. He noted that he also likes their mascot.
“It’s not quite as much as the Mets get requested way more than the Jets, but I think they’re currently playing. So, that’s probably why. The Jets have still a little while. I’m sure those will come rolling through, too, though. But, yes, they do ask me to uncurse the Mets. And I do like their mascot. He’s got the baseball head.”
Danhausen’s Knicks connection started as a bizarre wrestling-meets-NBA bit, but it has now grown into something fans are actively paying him to continue. He may not remember which teams are cursed anymore, but one thing is clear: Knicks fans are still treating him like part of the team’s good luck charm. With the Knicks needing one more win, Danhausen’s “very nice, very evil” influence may not be done just yet.
