Corey Graves hasn’t wrestled regularly in more than a decade, but apparently the door isn’t completely closed anymore. Graves has been back in the gym for the past several months to see how his body feels, and he’s already got one place in mind where stepping back into the ring could be fun: AAA.

While speaking with Mark Hoke, Graves was asked whether fans would ever see him wrestle again. Before getting to what he’s doing now, Graves revealed that he actually went through the process of getting medically cleared several years ago. At the time, Graves thought there might be an opportunity for an in-ring return. Whatever was being considered never happened, however, as circumstances within WWE changed.

“I’ve been asked that question quite a few times. I did go and got myself medically cleared several years back. There seemed like there was going to be an opportunity. Obviously, plans change as things change in the industry.”

Graves admitted he became somewhat stagnant after that possibility disappeared. Things have changed again over the last few months, because he has returned to training specifically to find out how he feels physically.

“I got a little stagnant after that, but I’m proud to report I have been back in the gym for the past several months just to kind of see how I feel.”

That’s where AAA entered the picture. Graves didn’t announce that a match is planned, but he openly floated the promotion as somewhere he could see himself getting back into the ring. There’s also a family connection that makes the idea particularly interesting to him. Graves pointed to the success his younger brother has already enjoyed in AAA and joked that, for once, he could be the sibling following someone else’s footsteps.

“And, you know, AAA might be fun for me to step foot into. My younger brother has had a great deal of success in AAA over the years, so maybe I’d actually follow in his footsteps, which could be kind of fun. But never say never.”

Graves’ wrestling career was derailed by concussion issues before he transitioned into commentary, but he has already cleared the biggest hurdle for any potential comeback by receiving medical clearance years ago. Now he’s actually back in the gym testing how his body responds instead of simply talking about what might have been.

There’s no match booked and Graves stopped well short of announcing a comeback. Still, “never say never” sounds a little more interesting when it comes from someone who is medically cleared, training again and already naming AAA as somewhere he might want to wrestle.
