Cody Rhodes just had another run-in with The Rock, and this one didn’t happen anywhere near a WWE ring.

Cody took to his Instagram Stories and revealed that he reunited with The Rock at the premiere of the new live-action Moana movie. Cody was smiling in the photo, while The Rock kept a serious look on his face, which was more than enough to get fans talking after everything Cody recently said about their unfinished WWE business.

The timing is what makes this one interesting. Cody recently told Ariel Helwani that The Rock has become a major figure in both his career and his life, especially after The Final Boss character changed the road to WrestleMania.

“Hmm. Dwayne Johnson has become a bit of a fixture in my career and in my life. Not just for his flag-in-the-sand moment that was WrestleMania and the emergence of one of the better characters that we only saw a little of — The Final Boss.”

Cody didn’t fully promise fans they are getting that match or that final chapter, but he also didn’t act like everything between them was settled.

“I don’t want to give it an absolute that we have to settle that, but I think it’s an unfinished story, which probably means there are two unfinished stories out there, and they don’t always get finished.”

That is why a simple premiere photo hits differently. If this were anyone else, it would just be a red carpet reunion. With Cody and Rock, fans are obviously going to look at it and wonder if WWE is quietly keeping that door cracked open.

Cody has already said there are two versions of how this could play out. One version is outside wrestling, where he follows Rock’s path into television and Hollywood while trying to prove he can succeed there too.

“In wrestling, there is a lot of fantasy booking, but there’s a lot that goes into it. There’s a version of this story where finishing the story for me is trying to be as successful as I can be following his lead, breaking into TV and Hollywood that he thought only he could do, and doing that to honor him. But then there’s a version of it that’s appealing to a wrestling fan — that The Final Boss shows up and there’s more on the table than a non-ending. So I can’t answer that, Ariel.”

Cody also made it clear he is not a fan of empty Rock teases. He said the current roster is the one carrying WWE every week, and nostalgia only works if it becomes current and active.

“I can say, as wrestlers, we get a little trepidatious, or we won’t get excited, when people tease he might be there, leak it, or drop something that’s misleading because we are trying to pull this wagon. You know me, I love nostalgia, but it’s got to be current and active, and right now we need active.”

The Rock has been away from WWE television since Elimination Chamber 2025, but Cody’s new photo with him is going to restart the same question all over again. Are they just two stars crossing paths at a Hollywood premiere, or is WWE’s unfinished Final Boss story still sitting there waiting?

Cody may not be promising anything, and The Rock may still be focused on Hollywood, but one serious look in a photo was enough to remind fans that this story never really got a clean ending.
