Cody Rhodes has plenty of respect for Gunther, but don’t mistake that for doubt.
The WWE Champion sat down with Joe Tessitore ahead of Clash in Italy and discussed the challenge waiting for him when he steps into the ring against one of WWE’s most dominant stars.
Gunther has spent years building a reputation as one of the toughest competitors in professional wrestling. His hard-hitting style and championship success have earned him praise from fans and fellow wrestlers alike. Rhodes acknowledged that reputation during the interview and even admitted that the current version of Gunther may be the best the wrestling world has ever seen.
“Gunther is the best version of himself that he’s ever been.”
The champion praised Gunther’s fundamentals, athleticism, and ability inside the ring, describing him as a wrestler’s wrestler. However, Rhodes made it clear that admiration only goes so far. As the conversation turned toward their upcoming championship clash, Rhodes delivered a statement that leaves little doubt about how he views the matchup.
“I feel I am better than Gunther.”
Rhodes explained that both men believe they are superior to the other and that Clash in Italy will finally settle the argument. The WWE Champion also pushed back on the narrative that Gunther should be feared because of the legends he has defeated throughout his career. Instead, Rhodes believes Gunther is dangerous because of the wrestler he has become today, not because of the names attached to his resume.
Even with the confidence, Rhodes didn’t dismiss the challenge in front of him. He acknowledged Gunther’s intensity and ability while making it clear that he isn’t entering the match intimidated.
