Cody Rhodes has no issue with WWE calling its major shows Premium Live Events, even if some fans still prefer the old pay-per-view label.
While speaking on his What Do You Wanna Talk About?, podcast, the Undisputed WWE Champion defended the term PLE and said wrestling terminology has always changed over time, making it clear that the change becomes second nature.
“You don’t mind using the term PLE. Nope, solid. I don’t either. And it’s pro wrestling. After a while, it just becomes second nature. You just move into saying it.”
The American Nightmare then pointed out that before fans called WWE specials pay-per-views, they were known as closed-circuit events, so the name changing again is nothing new. PLE is the current term and he simply loves it.
“And then, you know, there were pay-per-views, but before pay-per-views, they weren’t pay-per-views. They were closed circuits. So PLE is the term. I love that.”
WWE officially started using Premium Live Event in January 2022, beginning with Day 1. Since then, the term has become part of the company’s branding, even if plenty of longtime fans still say pay-per-view out of habit.
The American Nightmare’s point is simple: wrestling language evolves. Fans may not love every corporate term WWE adopts, but “PLE” has now become the company’s official label for its biggest broadcast events.
