Cody Rhodes just gave fans another reason to keep one eye on his unfinished business with The Rock.

During the closing moments of Cody’s appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, he was asked about Karl-Anthony Towns purchasing a rare WWE one-of-one trading card tied to The Rock’s storyline about wanting Cody’s soul.

That card came from the period when The Rock was operating as “The Final Boss” and repeatedly made Cody’s future personal heading into their WrestleMania storyline. Even though plenty has changed since then, Cody did not exactly shut the door on that chapter being revisited.

When asked about Towns getting the special card, Cody acknowledged its connection to The Rock and admitted he is not even sure whether that part of their story is finished.

“Well, it’s a very rare card he got. This is during the period that the Final Boss, The Rock, was asking on television for my soul. I don’t know if it’s still on the line. He appears when he appears. But that right there is a very special card. I’m glad he got it.”

That line about The Rock appearing “when he appears” is likely to get fans talking. Cody did not announce anything, and he did not claim that another confrontation is scheduled, but he also did not speak about the storyline as something permanently left in the past.

For now, Cody’s immediate focus is Gunther and his WWE Championship defense at Clash in Italy. Still, The Rock’s shadow continues to hang over Cody whenever their unfinished issues are brought up, and Rhodes’ answer made it clear that the door is not fully closed.
