CM Punk may have teased a Friday problem on CFFC commentary, but WWE apparently still has Monday circled for his comeback.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the expectation inside WWE remains that Punk will return on the July 6, 2026 episode of RAW from the Allstate Arena in Chicago. That hometown return has reportedly been the plan for several weeks. A source at the Allstate Arena also said there has been no change to Punk’s promotional status for the show, which explains why WWE is still advertising him heavily for the event.

That update is interesting because Punk recently had fans reading into his comments during Cage Fury Fighting Championships 156 in Chicago. When asked about another CFFC event happening on a Friday, Punk suddenly acted like his schedule might be an issue.

“Was that a Friday? It’s a Friday? I don’t know if I can make it…”

Friday is SmackDown night, so naturally, fans took that as a possible tease. Punk also played coy when asked if he had any major news, joking about his weight instead.

“Big news? No, I don’t have a lot of news. I gained 20 pounds recently. It’s not good weight. The suit’s a little tight, ladies and gentlemen.”

Still, the latest word points back to RAW, not SmackDown. Punk has been off WWE television since the April 20 episode of Monday Night RAW, and his return in Chicago would give WWE a huge hometown moment.

The July 6 RAW already has plenty going on, too, with Sami Zayn set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes in the advertised main event. If Punk really does walk back in that night, Chicago is probably going to lose it.

Do you think CM Punk should return on RAW in Chicago, or would WWE be better off saving him for SmackDown? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know.
