CM Punk’s trainer has seen enough of the steroid accusations. After Punk’s suddenly bulked-up physique had fans questioning how he got so jacked, Jay Ferruggia fired back and said there’s a much simpler explanation: Punk is working his ass off.
Ferruggia took to Instagram and unloaded on people claiming Punk’s transformation must be the result of steroids, calling that reaction the product of a “weak-minded, lazy internet.”
“So says the weak-minded, lazy internet. CM Punk is working his ass off from day one when he reached out to me. He has done every single thing that I’ve asked him to do. He’s on vacation in Hawaii, checking in with me every single day, sending me pictures, sending me his meals, sending me his macros, his weight, his temperature after meals, sending me videos from the gym, taking naps, getting enough sleep, getting morning sunshine, taking the supplements I tell him to take, never missing a workout, doing more than I ask him to do. I have to hold him back.”
And according to Ferruggia, Punk isn’t suddenly getting serious about his body whenever the cameras are around. He said Punk has completely changed the way he eats and trains, even taking scales and rice cookers with him on the road to keep everything dialed in.
“He’s getting his cardio in, weighing his food, buying rice cookers, buying scales, bringing all that with him on the road, eliminating all the shit from his diet, training harder than ever, smarter than ever, better than ever, dialed in at a level that most people could never comprehend.”
Ferruggia has spent three decades in the fitness business, and Punk’s commitment has apparently managed to impress even him.
“In 30 years in this business, CM Punk is working as hard as anyone I’ve ever worked with. He’s as dedicated as anyone. And you’re going to sit here and post after post, ‘CM Punk is on steroids,’ blah, blah.”
There’s also another reason some of the photos circulating online may make Punk look particularly enormous. Ferruggia claimed some are AI, while others simply caught Punk under perfect gym conditions.
“Meanwhile, half these pictures are AI, and the other half are from being in the gym with great lighting, with a great pump.”
But Ferruggia isn’t denying that Punk has made significant physical progress. He said Punk has become considerably leaner, which naturally makes him look bigger, while changing his training has produced results that Ferruggia compared to “newbie gains.”
“Now, how is he making progress like that? Again, he’s doing every goddamn thing I told him to do. He’s working his ass off. He’s gotten significantly leaner. So when you get leaner, you look bigger, and he’s training in a different way. Honestly, he’s making almost newbie gains. It’s surprising me, but I know what’s going on. I know all the things he’s doing. I’m with him. I spend time with him. I talk to him every single day.”
Ferruggia then saved his hardest shot for the people accusing Punk of taking shortcuts.
“So just because someone’s getting somewhere and accomplishing something that you can’t doesn’t mean they are taking shortcuts and cheating. You are just lazy.”
The defense comes after Ryback also pushed back against steroid speculation surrounding Punk. Ryback said he personally doesn’t see a physique that “screams steroid abuse” and argued that nobody outside Punk and any medical professionals involved actually knows what he is or isn’t taking.
Now the man actually overseeing Punk’s transformation has entered the conversation, and Ferruggia isn’t being nearly as diplomatic. He says Punk is training harder, eating better, getting leaner and following his program obsessively—and if people would rather call it steroids than acknowledge the work, he thinks that says more about them than Punk.
Do you think Jay Ferruggia’s explanation puts the CM Punk steroid speculation to rest, or will fans keep questioning his transformation? Let us know in the comments.
