CM Punk isn’t changing his stance on retirement—but his latest comments give a much clearer picture of how he’s actually approaching the end of his career.
After previously pushing back on constant retirement questions, Punk addressed them again during his April 14, 2026 appearance on the All The Smoke podcast. This time, instead of brushing it off, he broke down his mindset in detail—focusing on injuries, responsibility, and why he refuses to plan an exit.
When asked directly about how much longer he sees himself going, Punk made it clear that unpredictability has completely changed how he thinks about timelines. The Second City Saint then reflected on his triceps injury that derailed his run in 2024, explaining how quickly things can shift even when everything seems locked in.
“No, I don’t put a timetable on it because I know it could end like that any day… I don’t want to say, like, ‘Hey, I’m really pushing for XYZ and that I’m going to make it.’ I remember the heartbreak I felt when I came back and there were all these great plans ahead, and I tore my tricep… It just felt like I let a lot of people down. I let myself down. It was just a freak accident… the thing was probably hanging on by a thread from years of wear and tear.”
From there, Punk shifted into how that experience reshaped his entire approach—moving away from long-term goals and focusing on taking things day by day. He also pointed to how active he’s been recently, stating that he’s still choosing to work a full schedule even when others tell him he doesn’t have to.
“Now it’s just about greeting every day with a smile, and every situation is going to be different. I’ve done everything—every Christmas Loop show, I did a full European tour… everyone keeps telling me, ‘Hey man, you don’t got to do this.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I get it, I don’t have to do it, but I have to do it.’”
Punk tied that directly to holding the World Heavyweight Championship, explaining that he feels obligated to keep delivering while he’s in that position. At the same time, he acknowledged the physical toll—but made it clear he’s not going to dwell on it.
“Especially with this around my waist, I feel like there’s a responsibility… I still feel very much inclined to work harder. If something’s aching, not to cry about it because we’re all aching.”
He then revealed how he views each tour and moment, admitting there’s an awareness that nothing lasts forever—even if he’s not setting a deadline. And finally, Punk summed up his entire mindset with one line that leaves no room for confusion, planning to wrestle until he physically can’t anymore.
“I don’t know how many of these I have left in me… it is an honor. To me, I’m going until the wheels fall off.”
At the end of the day, Punk isn’t counting down the days—he’s riding it out. No timeline, no farewell plan, and no promises about when it ends. Just a veteran pushing forward until his body tells him otherwise.
Do you think CM Punk’s “no timetable” approach is the right move, or should he start planning an exit while he’s still at the top? Let us know your thoughts.
