CM Punk has another acting gig lined up, and his Hollywood résumé is getting a little longer while his WWE run continues. After popping up in everything from wrestling dramas to horror movies over the past few years, Punk has now booked his next television role.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Second City Saint has landed a role in the second season of ABC’s R.J. Decker, a series centered around a private investigator in the Miami area.
“CM Punk has a role in the second season of the ABC TV show R.J. Decker. Decker is about a private eye based in the Miami area.”
There’s no word yet on who CM Punkwill be playing or how significant his role will be. What is clear is that this isn’t some random first step into acting for the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Punk has been steadily building up credits away from wrestling for years. One of his most recognizable television roles came in Heels, where he played eccentric independent wrestler Ricky Rabies and returned for the show’s second season.
Punk also stepped outside the wrestling world with Mayans M.C., appearing as Paul, a military veteran and friend of Gilly. Punk’s movie work has included Girl on the Third Floor, where he took the lead role as Don Koch, along with appearances in Rabid and Jakob’s Wife.
More recently, Punk has kept adding projects even while wrestling regularly again. He appeared in the horror-comedy Let’s Start a Cult and the vampire film Night Patrol, while also branching into voice acting with Zootopia 2.
Punk also appeared in Revival, adding another television credit before R.J. Decker came along. At this point, acting has become much more than the occasional side project whenever wrestling gives him some free time.
There’s still plenty left to learn about Punk’s R.J. Decker role, especially since his character hasn’t been revealed. Considering the variety of characters he’s played over the past few years, though, guessing where CM Punk fits into a Miami private-eye story could be half the fun.
