CM Punk survived Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on SmackDown. Getting down the ring steps afterward somehow proved to be another problem entirely.

Footage from after the August 21 show went off the air caught Punk leaving the ring following his Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Owens. Punk started making his way down the steps, only to suddenly tumble off and collapse onto the floor at ringside.

Punk didn’t immediately get back up either. Punk remained on the ground as referees quickly came over and checked on him, turning what should have been a routine walk to the back into a pretty concerning-looking scene.

There is obviously no indication from the footage that Punk actually suffered an injury. He may have simply lost his footing on the steps or been completely exhausted after everything he’d just been through, but watching the WWE Champion suddenly hit the floor was enough to get people’s attention.

Punk’s night had already been chaotic before that happened. Sami Zayn interfered during his title defense against Owens, first sending KO into the ring post and later smashing him with the WWE Championship. Punk capitalized with a GTS to retain before Sami attacked him after the bell as well.

So Punk took a beating, survived the main event and walked out of SmackDown with his championship. Then he got to the ring steps and suddenly ended up flat on the floor with referees checking on him.
