Chris Masters says he made an effort to connect with All Elite Wrestling, but the experience left him feeling like the company simply moved on without him.
During an appearance on the Wrestling with Heart podcast, Masters was asked whether he had considered joining AEW or returning to one of the major promotions. His response revealed that he did try to get his foot in the door, but never heard anything back.
“As far as Tony Khan, I just—I don’t know if Tony is even a fan of my work or not. I would assume probably not based on the type of stuff he does.”
Masters then explained that he attempted to visit backstage at an AEW event, hoping it might lead to an opportunity. Instead, he says there was no follow-up as the company just ghosted him.
“I did try to go backstage there, and I was never followed up with. So I was just kind of like—I don’t know—it was very unmotivating to me when I didn’t get a follow-up from somebody I knew about just showing up to the AEW show.”
That lack of response was enough for Masters to stop pursuing the idea. But even so, Masters made it clear he is still open to the right opportunity if one comes along. He just is not fixated on signing specifically with WWE or AEW.
“So I just kind of wiped my hands with it, man, and I’m just doing my own thing. Whatever—if a cool opportunity comes along, I’m definitely game for it. But I’m not looking at it like, ‘Oh, WWE or AEW.’”
The comments come after Masters admitted during an interview with the Rewind Relive Recap podcast that he still hopes for another major wrestling opportunity, even while acknowledging it may never happen.
“I’d like to, man, I’ve tried to work for that. I was with NWA for a minute, and that gave me kind of a good, at least, platform to show what I can do. But it’s tough, man, because I look around the landscape now and I just, I don’t know where that opportunity is going to come from. It might not be in the cards. I definitely feel like my ability is better than it’s ever been.”
For now, Chris Masters is continuing his career on his own terms. But based on his current comments, any hopes of joining AEW appear to have ended after the company never followed up when he tried to make contact.
