Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona may both be fighting for attention in the same business, but don’t expect money, television time or career success to start a war inside their house. Green says the couple has never had an issue with one person getting a bigger opportunity than the other—and she actually finds that kind of jealousy pretty embarrassing.
While speaking to Chris D’Comedy, Green and Cardona were asked whether being married while working in professional wrestling ever creates tension when one person is getting more attention, making more money or landing bigger opportunities. Green immediately shut that idea down.
“No, that actually gives me like serious ick when couples get like that. That’s f**ing weird. That is so weird.”*
Green acknowledged that she knows couples who do get caught up in comparing careers, but she made it clear that isn’t how things work between her and Cardona.
“Do I know people that have been like that? Yes. No. We would absolutely never fight about who’s bigger or who’s making more money or any of that stuff. No.”
That doesn’t mean working in the same industry makes everything easy. Green admitted that wrestling can absolutely create problems in a relationship when two people are constantly traveling, working and spending nearly every waking hour together.
“However, there’s definitely relationship problems when you travel and you eat, sleep, breathe, work with the same person.”
That dynamic has become even more interesting with Cardona back in WWE while Green continues her own run with the company. Green has already said that working with Cardona in WWE felt “inevitable”, meaning their personal and professional lives could eventually become even more connected on television.
For Green, though, there appears to be a pretty simple rule: success isn’t a competition inside their marriage. One of them can get the bigger paycheck, the bigger storyline or the bigger spotlight without the other turning it into a problem—but spending nearly every second together is apparently where things can get a little more complicated.
