Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona spent years almost crossing paths on the same wrestling shows, but now that both are back under the WWE umbrella, Green says putting them together on television was basically unavoidable.

During a conversation with eTalk, Green opened up about finally getting to share WWE television with her husband after years of their careers constantly coming close to overlapping without it actually happening. Green noted that she and Cardona have been together for a decade, making those near-misses pile up over the years.

“Matt and I have been together for 10 years. We have had so many instances in our careers where we’ve almost crossed paths, where we’ve almost worked together. We’ve almost been on the same show.”

That changed once Cardona was brought back to WWE. Green said getting the chance to work with him on SmackDown was already special, but fans also got another look at their relationship through backstage footage featured on WWE: Unreal.

“It was an amazing moment to be able to have him brought back to WWE, have us be able to work together on screen, on SmackDown, but then also have backstage footage from Unreal. That was really cool, as well.”

For Green, WWE eventually leaning into their real-life marriage made perfect sense. Wrestling has increasingly blurred the line between what happens on television and what is happening in the performers’ actual lives, and Green sees her relationship with Cardona fitting right into that.

“I think that right now in wrestling, we love to blur the lines, and we bring in current events. We bring in real-life situations. So, for Matt and I to end up on screen together was, in my opinion, inevitable.”

Green also pointed out that their relationship has never exactly been a secret. Both have shared plenty of their life together publicly, from building their home to adopting animals, so pretending they weren’t married once Cardona returned to WWE would have been pretty pointless.

“You cannot avoid the fact that we are together. We are both in WWE. We are very public people with our personal lives. Everyone has watched us build our house and adopt our animals and kind of grow this life together.”

Cardona eventually coming to Green’s aid on SmackDown gave fans the on-screen crossover they had been waiting to see, and Green admitted she got a kick out of experiencing the moment from inside the ring herself.

“So, I think it was really beautiful for the fans to be able to see that on screen, on SmackDown. He came to my aid, and it was just really fun.”

Green said she wasn’t only part of the segment either. She also found herself watching Cardona’s arrival like everybody else.

“I got to watch in the ring as a fan, as well. Everybody was watching him come save me, but I also got to watch that, which was really fun.”

After years of Green and Cardona building their careers on separate tracks, WWE finally has both of them in the same place at the same time. Green clearly sees plenty of room for their real-life relationship to keep bleeding into television now that the door has been opened.
