Chelsea Green is trying to break into Hollywood, and one of her biggest auditions so far came at just about the worst possible time.
While speaking on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Green talked about building an acting résumé while continuing her WWE career. She has already worked on a horror movie and other projects, but she revealed that she also landed an audition for Baywatch.
The problem was that Green was in the middle of WWE’s European tour. She had just left Sicily and was traveling to Bologna, Italy, for SmackDown when her agent called and told her she had roughly a day to put together the self-tape. Green didn’t have an acting coach with her, proper lighting or even a normal setup for filming the audition. That left her building a makeshift setup in her hotel room while Matt Cardona read opposite her.
“I had a hilarious experience. We were doing the Euro tour a couple months ago. I had just left Sicily. I had just done my vacation with Matt. I had just left Sicily traveling to Bologna, Italy to do SmackDown. And I got a call from my agent. ‘You have a self tape, but you have to do it in the next 24 to 48 hours. Hopefully 24.’ And it’s for Baywatch. Yeah. But I had to do it. I had to do it in my hotel room with Matt reading for me with terrible lighting. It was like, ‘No, this is my dream. Like my dream audition right now and I didn’t even have my acting coach. I didn’t have the proper lighting. I—you know—all the things that you want to set you up for success.’ Like I’m setting it up. I’m setting up my camera that I don’t even know how to do a video recording. I’ve only ever taken selfies of myself, setting it up on a table with a garbage can, with a box of tissues, with that on there, with like this makeshift light that I tried to aim at myself, with a bed in the background. I was so embarrassed.”
Green said she still refused to pass on the opportunity. She described herself as extremely hungry to make acting work and said she would rather submit something imperfect than walk away from an audition because the circumstances weren’t ideal.
“Within acting, like I’m so hungry. I want it so bad. It’s better for me to just do the thing and learn from it. And that’s what my acting coach said too. Like, I sent it to her. She’s like, ‘Look, I would have given you a million other things that you could have done to make this look better, but at the end of the day, you did the best you could with the circumstances.’”
Then came the obvious question: Did Green actually land the Baywatch role? She didn’t.
“No. Otherwise, I would be yapping. We would be talking for an hour about Baywatch. Like, I can’t wait to see who gets it because I do love watching, because they make choices you would have never made. I’m so new. I’m in my head. The people who get the roles are never in their head. They’re always so authentically that character. So, it’ll be really interesting. I’ll be totally jealous. I can’t wait to see who it is. But hopefully, hopefully I get more opportunities because I did it. I did the thing.”
Green didn’t get Baywatch, but she clearly isn’t treating the rejection like a reason to slow down. She’s taking auditions wherever she can get them, even if that means turning a WWE hotel room into a last-second movie set with Cardona holding down the other side of the scene.
