Chad Gable knows exactly what fans thought about Shorty G, and he finally gave everyone the apology they probably never expected to hear.
During an appearance on Good Karma Wrestling, Gable was talking about making amends since returning to the United States. One of the hosts joked that Gable had already done enough apologizing around the locker room, but if he wanted to apologize one more time, he could say sorry to the fans.
“Chad, um, you’ve been making amends around the locker room uh since you’ve returned to the states. Okay. So, I I think that’s enough, Chad. I think you’ve done enough I think you’ve done enough of You’ve done enough apologizing. I think that’s enough. Yeah. So, let’s let’s get back on on track here. I will say one thing. If you want to apologize one more time, you can apologize to the fans. Would you like to do that? Would you like to make amends with us?”
Gable played along immediately. Instead of dodging it, he brought up the one gimmick fans still roast to this day.
“Jeez. What So, what would you like me to apologize for? Because I you got me at the right moment. I mean, I’m very vulnerable lately. Um [laughter] You know, let me just say I’ll I’ll apologize to you guys personally and to the entire audience for Shorty G. How about that?”
That got the reaction you would expect. The hosts accepted the apology, but Gable wanted to make sure they were really taking it, especially after joking that Maxine and others had not accepted his apologies. Once they accepted it, Gable finished the bit by taking the blame.
“Do you accept Will you at least accept I know Maxine and them didn’t, but you guys have to accept that one.”
“Thank you. That was my fault. That’s on me.”
Shorty G has been a punchline for years because fans knew Gable was better than that. The guy was an Olympic-level athlete, a killer technical wrestler, and someone who could always go in the ring. Then WWE slapped him with a name that sounded like a bad joke and expected everyone to buy in.
Now Gable is in a much better place creatively, and fans are finally seeing more of what he can actually do. That is probably why the Shorty G joke landed so hard. It was funny, but it also reminded everyone how far he has come from that mess.
What do you think about Chad Gable apologizing for Shorty G? Was that one of WWE’s worst gimmicks, or did it get too much hate? Leave your feedback in the comments and let us know.
