Fans were pissed when Ric Flair didn’t show up in Las Vegas to accept one of wrestling’s biggest honors—and the Cauliflower Alley Club has now fired back.
The organization says Flair’s absence doesn’t erase his career or make him any less deserving of the Iron Mike Mazurki Award. The club issued a statement on September 1, 2026, after members complained about traveling to its reunion expecting to see The Nature Boy in person.
“We recognize and understand the disappointment expressed by some members regarding Ric Flair’s inability to attend our recent reunion in person. Many traveled to the reunion looking forward to seeing the ‘Nature Boy,’ and we do not dismiss that disappointment.”
Flair missed the event because of blood clots in his legs. Jerry “The King” Lawler was brought in on extremely short notice, while Flair appeared live through Zoom on the venue’s massive screen. The club says President B. Brian Blair informed members about the change Monday evening before officials started scrambling to save the appearance.
“The Club then worked on extremely short notice to secure WWE Hall of Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler to appear at the reunion.”
Officials also kept working with Flair’s management until they found a way for him to participate virtually. According to the club, it was the first virtual appearance in the reunion’s history.
“Those efforts resulted in Ric appearing virtually to accept his honor—the first virtual appearance of its kind in Cauliflower Alley Club reunion history.”
Flair explained during the video appearance that the blood clots made traveling to Las Vegas and then immediately heading to Philadelphia too dangerous.
“I have blood clots in my legs, so I can’t travel the five- or six-hour trip that it takes to get there and then turn around and go right to Philadelphia.”
Things got messy one day later when Flair posted a video from the airport and announced that he was still flying to Philadelphia.
“This is the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, and the word is out I might not be at Philadelphia. That is totally incorrect. I’m at the airport now on my way. A little blood clot won’t keep me from coming into Philly. Dynasty Sports, one o’clock. The Nature will be there, live and in color.”
That quick turnaround raised even more questions, but Flair’s explanation was simple: he couldn’t handle the Las Vegas trip followed by an immediate flight to Philadelphia. Once Vegas was removed from the schedule, he decided he could still make the Philadelphia appearance. The Cauliflower Alley Club isn’t backing away from its decision to honor Flair. Officials made it clear that missing one night doesn’t wipe out more than five decades of work. The club ended its statement with a direct message to everyone still angry about the no-show.
“But his inability to be physically present does not diminish a career spanning more than five decades, nor does it disqualify the achievements for which his peers selected him to receive the Iron Mike Mazurki Award.”
“The card was subject to change. The respect behind the honor was not.”
The Cauliflower Alley Club knows people paid and traveled expecting to see Ric Flair. Its position is that officials addressed the problem, brought in Jerry Lawler and still found a way for Flair to accept the award without making the longer Las Vegas trip.
