Bryan Danielson’s surprise return to the ring on the PAC tribute edition of AEW Dynamite doesn’t appear to be the start of another run. According to a new report, the former AEW World Champion’s comeback was intended to be a one-night appearance from the beginning.
According to Fightful Select, Danielson’s involvement in the September 30 tribute show was specifically tied to honoring PAC. He came out of retirement to compete in a multi-person match after many wrestlers volunteered to be part of the special episode.
Despite returning to the ring, Fightful reports there is currently no indication that Danielson is set to become part of AEW’s regular television plans again. As things stand, his appearance was exclusively for the tribute show.
The report lines up with what Dave Meltzer previously revealed about the episode, noting that Tony Khan dramatically changed the original plans for Dynamite after PAC’s passing. Meltzer said numerous wrestlers, including Danielson, Kenny Omega and Mercedes Moné, wanted to contribute, leading Khan to scrap much of the scheduled show in favor of tribute matches and memorial segments.
For fans hoping Danielson’s return meant another full-time run, this update suggests that’s not the case. At least for now, his appearance looks to have been a special exception made to honor PAC rather than the beginning of a new chapter in his in-ring career.
