Brie Bella is back inside a WWE ring, but she says the comeback never happens without Bryan Danielson stepping up at home.
While speaking to The Sal Licata Show backstage at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Brie opened up about balancing WWE, motherhood and family life. She explained that Danielson stepping away from in-ring competition finally gave her the chance to seriously consider returning.
Before she committed, Brie made sure Danielson understood exactly what the comeback would demand. She wanted him involved in her training, but she also needed to know he could handle the schedule and everything that came with it.
“For me, I’m lucky because my husband’s so supportive. Because he retired from in-ring, it gave me the opportunity to come back. When I started to realize his schedule, I was like, ‘I really want to make a comeback. Obviously, I want you to be my coach. I really want to train hard. It’s going to be a lot of work, but will you be able to deal with the schedule?’ And he was like, ‘Yes, 100%.’”
Danielson did more than simply give Brie his blessing. According to her, he has taken on a much bigger role with their children while she trains, travels and gets back into wrestling shape. Brie joked that Danielson has turned into a “Pinterest” dad, handling homemade meals, snacks, arts and crafts and the daily responsibilities she previously carried.
“I honestly couldn’t do it without him. I feel so blessed. He’s been picking up all those times when it was just the kids and me. It’s funny because I’m like, ‘You’re like Pinterest.’ He’s crushing it—the homemade meals, the fun snacks, the arts and crafts. He’s doing a great job. But honestly, I couldn’t do it without his support because he allows me to come out here and do what I love.”
Brie Bella’s WWE comeback may be taking place in front of the cameras, but Bryan Danielson is doing plenty of the heavy lifting behind the scenes. His retirement gave Brie an opening, and his support at home gave her the freedom to take it.
