Booker T believes one harsh reality about WWE roster cuts hasn’t changed — longevity alone won’t protect a wrestler from losing their job.

Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker addressed how veterans with years of experience can suddenly find themselves on the chopping block, especially when younger talent starts rising through the ranks. He explained that the business constantly evolves, and roster decisions often come down to star power.

While discussing how crowded the WWE roster has become, Booker pointed out that staying relevant becomes harder for talent who have been around for years but haven’t reached the top tier.

“Not that I couldn't do anything with Alistair Black or anything like that. It's just that we got so many people to do stuff with, especially right now. We got so many people coming up to do stuff with. And that's what guys got to understand is this — if you're not the mega star, the top five, you can have a problem.”

He went on to explain that when younger performers begin making their way into the spotlight, companies naturally start evaluating who still brings the most value.

“Because one thing about guys that's been around for, you know, 10 plus years and they're not in that top five and these young guys are coming in, who do you think they're going to be looking to remove?”

Booker also emphasized that wrestlers who remain valuable to the company are those who generate interest and bring in revenue. In his view, being able to “move the needle” — even slightly — can be the difference between staying employed and being released.

“I felt like I was one of those guys that was selling tickets. I felt like I was one of those guys that was moving the needle… you may not have to move the needle too far. You just may have to slightly move the needle in order for the company to say, ‘Okay, we know we making money with this guy.’”

WWE’s yearly roster changes often spark debates among fans about fairness and missed opportunities, but Booker’s perspective shows that business decisions usually revolve around numbers, performance, and long-term value.

For wrestlers who aren’t positioned among the company’s biggest stars, staying competitive means constantly proving their worth — especially when new talent is ready to step in at any moment.
