Booker T just killed any idea that WWE had big Harlem Heat reunion plans when he came over from WCW.
During the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker was asked whether WWE ever had plans to bring Harlem Heat back once he made the jump from WCW to WWE. Fans have wondered for years if WWE ever kicked around the idea of pairing Booker back up with Stevie Ray after the WCW buyout. Booker made it clear that was never on the table.
“Nope, that never happened. They never talked about putting a reunion together. I was moved past that by that time.”
That says a lot. By the time Booker landed in WWE, he was not looking backward. Harlem Heat was already a huge part of his legacy, but Booker was focused on proving himself as a singles star in a new locker room. He also said putting the team back together would not have been the right move for him at that stage.
“I don’t think doing something like that would be taking a step forward.”
Booker then pointed out how different his situation was from a lot of other WCW names who came over to WWE. According to him, nearly everyone from WCW had to prove themselves again, but he was the exception.
“Everybody who came from WCW had to have a tryout, except for me.”
That pretty much ends the rumor. WWE was not sitting on some secret Harlem Heat reunion pitch. Booker T was already being treated as a top-level guy, and he was not interested in going backward just to replay the WCW days.
Harlem Heat will always be one of the most important tag teams in wrestling history, but Booker T’s WWE run was about becoming something else. He made that clear, and WWE apparently saw it the same way.
