Blake Monroe is officially off the market. The WWE SmackDown star confirmed she has a boyfriend while revealing that she actually came pretty close to looking for love on Love Island before finding someone on her own.
While speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, Monroe revealed that Love Island first approached her when she was only around 18 or 19 years old. She turned it down because wrestling was the priority and becoming a WWE Superstar was still the goal.
Years later, after Monroe moved to America, Love Island came knocking again. This time she seriously considered doing the show, but Monroe admitted there was one major problem — she wasn’t convinced she’d be able to handle watching a guy she liked get physical with somebody else during one of the show’s challenges.
“And everyone’s like, yeah, you, you could, um, you could do it. And I was like, I was torn because I’m insane. Like if I liked a guy and like, you are selling me a dream and then like you make out with my friend in a challenge. And American, the American one is intense. Like there’s things that we’re doing, I would actually like, probably throw him into the pool. Like I don’t think it would be a good move.”
Monroe never got the chance to find out whether she’d actually toss somebody into the pool because her love life changed before she ever made it onto the show. She revealed that she fell in love and no longer had any reason to go looking for romance on television.
“And then I fell in love. Yeah. And couldn’t go onto Love Island ’cause I found it myself.”
Monroe didn’t reveal who she fell in love with during that part of the conversation, but she later removed any doubt about her current relationship status while telling a completely different story.
The SmackDown star recalled wrestling a dark match after spending time away from the ring and admitted she was desperate to get back in there. When Monroe returned backstage after the match, Brie Bella was waiting for her and immediately gave her a hug while praising what she had just done. Monroe was so excited about Brie watching her wrestle that she immediately texted her boyfriend to tell him what happened.
“I remember I did the dark match on SmackDown. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ Like, I hadn’t wrestled in a while, and I was like, ‘I’m dying to wrestle.’ Like, I need to wrestle again. And then I did the dark match and I came back and Brie was the first person there. And she was like, ‘Oh my God.’ Like, she gave me a hug and she was like, ‘That was so good.’ And I remember I texted my boyfriend and I was like, ‘Brie Bella just watched my match.’ Like, ‘Brie Bella just watched my match and she hugged me.’”
Monroe isn’t putting a name or face to her boyfriend just yet, but she definitely isn’t hiding the fact that she’s in a relationship. Love Island came calling twice, but in the end, Monroe found someone without ever needing to step inside the villa.
