Blake Monroe hasn’t even wrestled her first match on WWE’s main roster yet, and she’s already threatening to mess with the championship belts. If Monroe gets her hands on gold, the infamous butterfly Divas Championship might be coming with her.
Speaking to The Sportster’s Adam Barnard, Monroe was asked which champion from WWE history she’d most like to face. Trish Stratus immediately came to mind, with Monroe pushing back against the idea that being called a “diva” should automatically be considered an insult.
“I mean, I have to say Trish just because I feel like she’s just the GOAT. Like, she’s the ultimate diva, and I say that with respect because I know people down talk diva. To me, it’s not a negative term. It’s like, it’s just the female version of a superstar. But she exuded that energy of like being a diva and like she had so much charisma and her promos and her gear and she was just—so many women are inspired by her.”
Then Nikki Bella entered the conversation, and suddenly Monroe wasn’t only interested in facing a former champion. She wanted her championship too.
“Or Nikki Bella for her Divas Championship because lowkey, I love the Divas Championship, the butterfly. It was cute. It would match my outfit.”
That’s certainly one way to pick a championship. WWE retired the butterfly Divas Championship at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, ending a run that stretched back to 2008. The belt has remained firmly in WWE’s past ever since, but Monroe apparently wouldn’t mind digging it back out of storage.
When the possibility of actually bringing the championship back was thrown her way, Monroe had an even better idea.
“Don’t let me get my hands on a title because I’ll swap them out.”
First, she’ll actually need to get her hands on one. Monroe is already part of the SmackDown roster but still hasn’t wrestled her first main-roster match. She recently joked about that wait herself after a fan pointed out WWE had her doing everything except wrestling, responding that she’d rather get paid to eat donuts with a fork anyway.
Whenever WWE finally does put her in the ring, Monroe clearly isn’t short on ambition. She wants championship gold, she loves the butterfly belt, and apparently WWE should keep a close eye on its title designs if she ever combines the two.
