Billy Gunn has survived multiple eras, countless roster changes and more reinventions than most wrestlers could dream of—and even he cannot believe he is still going.

During a conversation with Denise Salcedo, the WWE Hall of Famer admitted he never imagined his career would stretch across 37 years. Gunn said he always hoped his body would hold up, but he knew there was a danger in sticking around past the point when he could still perform at a respectable level. What kept Gunn alive in the business was not one endless run at the top. His career kept restarting just when it looked like things might finally be slowing down.

“No, I never thought I would make it this far. I’ve had sections in my career where they just keep going. After my WWE career, it was AEW. Then I started fading out, but I did stuff with The Acclaimed, and the next thing you know, we’re Trios Champions. Then my kids are in AEW, so now I’m wrestling with them. It’s a blessing that I get to do these things in stages that keep me relevant.”

Gunn went from The Smoking Gunns to D-Generation X, reinvented himself as Mr. Ass, became part of the Billy and Chuck storyline and later found another major run in AEW as “Daddy Ass” alongside The Acclaimed.

He also got the rare opportunity to wrestle with his sons, Austin and Colten Gunn, giving him another reason to remain active long after most performers from his generation had stepped away.

At this point, Gunn is not trying to prove that he can still wrestle like he did during the Attitude Era. He is enjoying the fact that fans still want to see him and that every new chapter has somehow opened another door.

What do you think has been the best chapter of Billy Gunn’s 37-year wrestling career? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback in the comments.
