Big E is putting his real story on paper, and this is not just another wrestling book.

Former WWE Champion Ettore “Big E” Ewen is writing a memoir titled How I Got Over: Healing from Depression and Psychosis to Find Joy In and Out of the Ring. The book is currently scheduled for release in early 2027.

The memoir will cover Big E’s rise in WWE, his run with The New Day, becoming the fourth Black WWE Champion in company history, and the private mental health struggles he dealt with behind the scenes.

Promotional material for the book says Big E will open up about the mental health battle that followed him even while his career was taking off.

“WWE legend Ettore ‘Big E’ Ewen chronicles his meteoric career in wrestling and entertainment—and the private, unseen mental health battle that shadowed his success.”

The book also digs into just how serious things were for Big E long before WWE. The promotional copy states that at 20 years old, Ewen did not expect to make it to 25, and believed his future would involve antidepressants, antipsychotics, and psych wards.

It also says Big E dealt with depressive thoughts and body image issues as early as nine years old, while growing up in Florida, changing schools often, and struggling socially.

His football career eventually earned him a full-ride scholarship to the University of Iowa, but the pressure, injuries, and school demands only made things worse. The book description says his depression later turned into hallucinations, even as his path toward wrestling success began.

“When his career took off, Ewen continued to be rocked with the ups and downs of his diagnosis, self-loathing, and unpredictable treatment journey even as he made a name for himself as Big E, wrestling with his own demons as he entered the wrestling limelight.”

The memoir will also cover Big E’s struggle to find his wrestling persona, his career-threatening injuries, and the relationships he built in the wrestling business.

Big E last wrestled in 2022 after suffering a broken neck during a match. He remains with WWE as a broadcaster, but in 2025, he acknowledged that he would not be returning to the ring. Since then, Big E has moved further into entertainment outside the ropes. He has branched into acting and is also set to deliver his first-ever TED Talk this year.

Big E’s WWE career already gave fans plenty to remember, but this book sounds like it will go way deeper than championships and comedy bits with The New Day. He is telling the story behind the smile, and it looks like he is not holding back.
