Becky Lynch is clearing up a major misconception about life in WWE—and it’s not as glamorous behind the scenes as some might think.
While fans often assume top stars are taken care of behind the scenes, Lynch says the reality is very different. Speaking with Dan Soder, she made it clear that even at the highest level, WWE talent is expected to handle their own expenses and logistics.
She didn’t ease into it either, opening up by directly addressing the idea that wrestlers are fully taken care of. Lynch then expanded on just how much responsibility falls on the talent themselves, especially when it comes to travel and day-to-day logistics on the road.
“I mean this politely, we’re not catered to. At all. Maybe there are a couple of folks…as you get more into it, you put up with less shit, but we pay for our own gear. They’re not getting us gear. We buy our own gear. We buy our own rental cars and our own hotels. We are in charge of booking those hotels and booking those rental cars.”
She also explained how that level of independence ends up shaping how WWE talent operate outside the company—especially when they step into other industries. And according to Lynch, that mindset is consistent across the board—because expectations are set early that no one is going to handle things for you.
“I think that’s why, actually, when we go to work at other places, whether it be ‘Billions’ or wherever, people are pleasantly surprised at how easy going we are because we’re not used to being catered to. We don’t expect anything. We don’t expect anybody to look after us. We are standardly so self-sufficient.”
For all the growth WWE has seen over the years—from bigger contracts to global exposure—Lynch’s comments make it clear that one thing hasn’t changed: talent are still largely responsible for themselves behind the scenes.
What do you think about WWE stars covering their own travel and expenses—should the company be doing more, or is this just part of the business? Let us know your thoughts.
